Ronaldo:Manchester United made me

The Real Madrid attacker has become one of the best players in the world , and hailed the role of the likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville in his development

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted his time at Manchester United played a huge role in his development.

The Portugal international joined United from Sporting CP in 2003 and matured into one of the best players in the world at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, who eventually left United for Real Madrid in 2009, has now revealed that the guidance of players such as Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs helped him become the player he is now.

"Manchester was a huge education for me," Ronaldo told The Times.
"There were guys who always arrived for training one hour early. Scholes and Neville were incredible examples. Neville was the most professional player I saw. This is why these guys played in the top level for 10 years.

"People like Giggsy, too. I learnt from them. I would go to training early, too. I would do exercise, strength, abdominals, core: many things. That example from the older players, I took it.

"Sometimes, you try something different and you say, 'Ooh, if I do that, then the ball is going to do this'. Everything was a lesson for me at that age. [Being at United] taught me to train hard all the time. To eat properly, sleep good, recovery sessions, everything. You have to dedicate yourself 100 per cent."

Ronaldo worked with Alex Ferguson during his time at United and he has nothing but fond memories of his former manager.

"I learnt a lot from Sir Alex, too. One of the terms that I still remember today is 'decision-making'", he signalled.

"'You are great, but you don't have decision-making. Pass the f***ing ball.' He always told me that. 'Cristiano: pass the f***ing ball.'
I still have contact with him. He is a great guy, great coach, great human being."

Benitez:I want Madrid right at The Top

The Spanish coach was satisfied with the "sensational" start his side made in Saturday's win over Las Palmas, while specially praising Jese Rodriguez and Casemiro

Rafael Benitez is delighted with the displays Real Madrid have put in to go top of La Liga, but insists they must strive to do even better as the season goes on.

The Santiago Bernabeu outfit opened up a three-point lead over Barcelona at the summit following Saturday's 3-1 win over Las Palmas, while they are also on course to reach the second round of the Champions League.

Speaking after the match, Benitez was delighted with the progress his side have shown in his first season in charge, though he also warned they cannot afford to get complacent.

"We played well in the first half, with a sensational start through Isco's goal in four minutes - this advantage helps you relax a little," he told reporters.

"We took control and everything good we did in the first half, we then did in the second.

"As for position in the table, I have Madrid where I want them. We must continue to grow because the competition is growing too."

"We lacked a bit of tension at times, which is a shame because we could have ended the first half without conceding a goal."
Benitez highlighted impressive performances from Jese Rodriguez and Casemiro in the wake of victory, with the Brazilian midfielder setting up Isco for the opener early on before the latter netted Madrid's third goal of the game shortly before the break.

"Jese has been working very well. He put in a good performance and I am very happy with him," he continued.
"Casemiro is a player who gives us balance in midfield."
The trainer then turned his attention to the upcoming Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain, which he sees as a completely different test.

"To win and play well as we did in the first half is a positive. The PSG game is different," Benitez concluded.
"We need motivation and we wish to maintain the level we reached in the first half throughout the match."

The Liga and Ligue 1 leaders are level in Group A on seven points apiece heading into Tuesday's game at the Bernabeu.

The Portuguese netted a diving header as Rafael Benitez's men continued their unbeaten start to the season

Cristiano Ronaldo went joint-top of La Liga's scoring charts following his goal during Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Las Palmas on Saturday.

Los Blancos opened up a three-point lead at the top of the table with a result that never looked in doubt once Isco opened the scoring with a precise left-footed finish in the fourth minute.

Ronaldo then capitalised on slack defending from Las Palmas to meet Marcelo's cross with a diving header, though the visitors halved the deficit from a corner.

Nevertheless, Jese Rodriguez continued his impressive form of late to seal Madrid's win with an excellent drive before the break.

The hosts comfortably defended their lead in the second half as they held on to their unbeaten status, with a stiff test against Paris Saint-Germain to come in the Champions League in midweek.
PSG were sluggish in their win over Rennes in Ligue 1 on Friday, but Madrid dominated right from the start and opened the scoring after just four minutes.
Casemiro won the ball after some sloppy build-up play from Las Palmas and set up Isco on the right side of the area, with the attacking midfielder coolly slotting home with his left foot for his first goal of the season.
Things got even worse for Las Palmas in the 14th minute. Marcelo reached Ronaldo with a superb cross from the left and the Portugal international stooped to head past the helpless Javi Varas.
Kiko Casilla was called into action when Jonathan Viera tried his luck from a narrow angle after cutting inside from the left, but the Madrid goalkeeper was equal to it.
Isco nearly doubled his tally after a quick counter-attack down the right. Jese fired in a low cross toward the former Malaga man, but he failed to beat the Las Palmas goalkeeper from close range.
The away side pulled one back five minutes before half-time. Nabil El Zhar sent in a fine corner from the right-hand side and Hernan found the net with a powerful header off the left post.
Las Palmas' joy would not last long, however, as Jese restored Madrid’s two-goal lead in the 42nd minute. The 22-year-old received the ball from Toni Kroos, went past Aythami and hit a strike into the far corner to make it 3-1.
Perhaps with an eye on Tuesday's continental clash, Real took their foot off the gas after the interval, but Ronaldo remained hungry for goals, flashing a shot wide early in the period.

Chances were at a premium as Real took a stranglehold on the game, but Ronaldo ought to have made it four in stoppage time, though Varas was quick off his line to keep the score down.

De Gea wouldn't start for Real Madrid, says David James

De Gea wouldn't start for Real Madrid, says David JamesThe former England goalkeeper believes competition for a starting spot with Keylor Navas swayed the United stopper's decision to remain at Old Trafford this summer
Manchester United’s David de Gea would not get into Real Madrid’s team, according to former goalkeeper David James.

The Spain stopper was heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu all summer before his expected return to La Liga fell apart in an error-strewn transfer deadline day for United and the Madrid giants.

However, despite De Gea reclaiming a starting spot in Louis van Gaal’s side, James - who retired in 2014 after wining 53 caps for England - believes the 24-year-old would be a mere back-up at Real.

"You look at Navas at Real Madrid, it's no wonder De Gea didn't go there," he said.

"When you think that Navas is such a good goalkeeper that De Gea wasn't necessarily going to be the number one anyway.
"I think it was possibly a reason, because Navas is awesome. He has been for a few years now.

"I enquired a couple of years ago to Arsene Wenger, 'Why don't you go for Navas, £8million or £10million buy-out?' He had (David) Ospina on his card, he went for Ospina, didn't he?

"Navas has had an exceptional start to the season in Spain and justified my theory that he is up there, if I say the top three - as a loose number - in the world because he is that good."

James added: ”I think he is (better than De Gea), yeah. I think his all-round game, he's got a lot more about him. Don't get me wrong, David de Gea's performed at an amazing level over the last three years."

Real Madrid want Mourinho back - Calderon

Real Madrid want Mourinho back - CalderonThe former president believes Florentino Perez is eyeing up a shock move for the Chelsea boss as a replacement for Rafa Benitez and is targeting Eden Hazard too
Real Madrid are interested in bringing Jose Mourinho back to the club and want Eden Hazard to join him at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to Ramon Calderon.

Mourinho has suffered a devastating start to the season, with the Blues sitting in 15th in the Premier League after picking up just three wins from their opening 10 matches.

The coach experienced mixed success during a three-year spell with Madrid but left amidst great controversy before re-joining Chelsea in 2013.

However, former chairman Calderon believes the club would be eager to reappoint him should things go sour this season under Rafael Benitez, insisting they even tried to bring him back during the summer before adding that they are interested in Hazard.

"If Mourinho is not at Chelsea anymore, I think Florentino Perez would be willing to bring him back to Real Madrid," he told BeInSport.

"They tried last summer but it was not possible because he stayed at Chelsea. They tried for Joachim Low, Jurgen Klopp, Mourinho and then Benitez.

"If things do not work out for Benitez and they do not work out for Mourinho at Chelsea then I think Perez will look to bring him back.
"They are also looking at Hazard and, as far as I know, he has not said no. We will wait and see."

Mourinho's time in the Spanish capital was plagued by several personal disputes with key players Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos, and Calderon believes the Portuguese finds himself in a similar situation this term.

"It is similar to what happened at Madrid," he added. "The problems with referees, rivalries, falling out with players. They still talk about the finger he stuck in Tito Villanova's eye."

Ronaldo hasn't done THIS since April.. but surely will this weekend?

Ronaldo hasn't done THIS since April.. but surely will this weekend? While the Real Madrid superstar has scored in his previous two games, he hasn't bagged three in a row for over six months - but his record against Las Palmas is superb

GOALOpta Stats

Real Madrid host Las Palmas at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday with Cristiano Ronaldo looking to score for the third consecutive Liga game.

However, the Portuguese star hasn't managed this feat since April earlier this year, a stretch spanning six months.

The stats are in his favour though with visitors Las Palmas carrying a dreadful record to the Spanish capital. The Yellows haven't won an away game in 14 attempts now - while in all their history, they have NEVER won at the Bernabeu.

Meanwhile Madrid's joint-biggest win EVER came against Las Palmas in 1959 (a 10-1 win) and they have ALWAYS scored at home against this weekend's opposition.

So... would you bet against Ronaldo scoring?

In total, the two teams have met on 62 occasions in La Liga. Of those encounters, Madrid have come away with 42 victories. At home, the Whites have never been beaten by Las Palmas (27 wins and four draws). Holding the record as Real Madrid's top scorers against the Canary Islanders are Di Stéfano and Santillana, with 13 goals apiece.

Benítez: "We have to impose our quality and ambition in order to beat Las Palmas"

NEWS | 30/10/2015 | ALBERTO NAVARRO
"It is always nice to see historic sides return to the top-flight and I hope that the fans enjoy it", added the Real Madrid manager.
Rafa Benítez spoke in the press room at Real Madrid City a day before the league game against Las Palmas (Saturday, 4pm CET). The manager analysed the game against the Canary Island side: "It is always nice to see historic sides return to the top-flight and I hope that the fans enjoy it, that it is a good game, that we win, and that from then on things go well for them. It will be difficult and will depend on what we are able to do. They have a new manager that will try to impose his personality. We have to impose our will, quality, and ambition".

"I said at the beginning that it was going to be a league season where the sides at the top lose more points than in the previous seasons. It is not going to be a league season with an awful lot of points. Atlético are a really great side, with players that have a lot of quality. They will have to be near the top, and so too will Valencia, Villarreal and Sevilla, sides that can take points from anyone".

Tiredness
“In Paris we kept up our level of play right until the end. It is true that we lowered it in Vigo and I owe that to two factors: Celta were on a run of form and were closing down a lot, and the fact that we were winning 0-2. The team is doing well and the figures are good, and we are managing the burden. The feeling is that the majority of players are in good physical condition".

Recovery Methods
“My opinion and that of many here is that the medical team is doing a really fantastic job. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the coaches that are in charge of the team have enough experience to consider that they are doing a great job".

Keylor Navas
“The priority is always to do the best for Real Madrid and for the players. He is suffering from muscle overload and we are not going to take the risk, not with him or Sergio, James or Benzema. There are lots of games left and we have the resources to tackle the next one".
“MARCELO IS DOING REALLY WELL AND HE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR US".
“When we decided that Marcelo was the only left-back in the squad, we considered that Arbeloa, Nacho and Danilo could be alternatives. From that point on, it is necessary to keep making progress and assessments. It is difficult to find better footballers than the ones that we have".

James's recovery
"He is increasing his workload and involvement with the team and that is the progression we want to see from him. He is improving every day and I am optimistic because he is progressing quite well. We want James to recover and score a lot of goals with Real Madrid and with Colombia".

"All of the players that are internationals under FIFA regulations must join up with their national sides if they are fit. We want the player to be in the best possible condition in order to perform with the team and his national side. We take maximum care to make this happen and the only thing that we can do is to coordinate it with the player and the national team manager. We just want him to be in the best possible condition".

Injuries with the national squads
“We have more than ten players that are heading away with their national teams. As the manager you always have to talk to the players, be in contact with and coordinate the team's doctors with those of the national side. We cannot do much more and cannot control each situation with each manager. If I was a national manager I would have another perspective, however I am the coach of a side".

Bale
“All of the players we have right now with problems have their recovery programs and schedules. His progress is going as expected and we do not want to rush things. We want the player to be perfect. There is no point forcing a situation if we believe that there is no point in doing so".

How to judge Real Madrid
“If I wasn't Spanish and from Madrid, arriving here from another country I could say what is happening here. Real Madrid is a really great side, they are usually at the top, that makes a lot of people happy, and others see it differently. As the head coach at this side, in charge of exceptional players, what I can do is manage the group and enjoy being unbeaten, at the top and try to ensure that continues".

Benzema
“He is doing well, getting better. Putting him into a game when he still has a little way to go is risky. We have a good feeling about him and believe that he will be able to train with the side from next week onwards. You cannot set schedules 100% in stone. There may be small niggles or knocks that can delay recovery periods. Our idea is for a lot of the injured players to be back training normally with the group next week"

Real Madrid - Las Palmas Betting: Back a Bernabeu goalfest for Rafa Benitez's men

Real Madrid - Las Palmas Betting: Back a Bernabeu goalfest for Rafa Benitez's men

Los Blancos have a number of key players coming back from injury and that should help them score at least four times at home against one of La Liga's weakest sides
Las Palmas' first trip to the Bernabeu in over 13 years comes at a difficult time for the Canary Islanders. There is never a good time to play Real Madrid away, but Las Palmas head to the capital in the relegation zone with just one win from their nine La Liga games having sacked manager Paco Hererra, the man who earned them promotion.

In his place Quique Setian has been appointed, a manager with barely any experience at this level, and his first away game could not be tougher. Madrid begin this round of fixtures top of the table, having yet to taste defeat and as the league's top scorers will fancy their chances of adding to their tally against Las Palmas.

William Hill price a home win at 1/10 (1.20) while a victory for the visitors is offered at 20/1 (21.00) and the draw is available at 8/1 (9.00).

The last time the side from Gran Canaria played a game in the Bernabeu they lost 7-0, and a repeat can be backed at 40/1 (41.00). While it is a long shot, it is not beyond the realms of possibility, especially given that Los Blancos have had the week to prepare and recover some of their injured players. James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema and Pepe could all be in contention to feature against the lowly visitors whose away record is poor.

Not only have Las Palmas claimed just a point from their four away games in the Primera so far, but in the second division last year they were poor on the road. Indeed, Saturday's visitors won just two of their last 13 away matches in the Segunda Division and there is every chance they will be on the receiving end of another hefty defeat.

Madrid to score over 3.5 goals is offered at 23/20 (2.15) and in a one-sided market it seems like a decent option. While Los Blancos have on occasion struggled to break down sides, they should have little problem in overcoming an uninspiring opponent.
